Well let's see.... The latest that sticks in my craw........Back in February I was spreading gravel on the road and around the house. Lovely little twig on a tree managed to hang on the exhaust flapper of my 2955 while I was backing up. Thought I got lucky because it broke the tail piece on the muffler about 2 inches up.... Figured I could fix that by sawing it off level, turning the tapered end down and weld it back on. No problem.....even got an old canvas tarp to drape the engine ( ya know, to keep the sparks and such from catching anything on fire). Well I got it tacked on and looked good to me so I lay a bead about 2/3rds around. In the few seconds it took me to walk 25 feet to get a step ladder and turn around  the tarp was a blaze and seemed like the flames were 4 feet tall. I guess I was lucky I hadn't taken off my gloves, I grabbed the tarp and little pieces of flame then went everywhere. Got them all patted out and looked to see what damaged was done. Surprised that I found no fire damage. AC wires weren't even damaged. So I thanked the Good Lord and finished the job.
Now, not an hour later the clutch petal started getting soft....Ah Ha! Needs a little fluid in the reservoir. :?: Wasn't as low as I expected so I put a little in and went back to work. Not much different, worked fine for a while and then got soft for a while....and then to the floor. So I figure slave cylinder went bad. Got it to my JD mechanic............open it up...... :o flywheel damage - crank shaft is "blue" ----- dig further and the thrust bearings are bad along with a list of other things. Last time I saw it it was gutted from the transmission shaft to the radiator.........mechanic shop says it is fixable. Quote is around $16,000.
It is insured......should have let it burn.
 :o Can't believe what it would cost to replace it with a new one.
