Having both small children and Fire ants. The kids learn to avoid them. You can use Andro or ant pison to kill them I tell you what I do. 1. I sometimes use Boric acid. Take shovel and open mound up and put Boric acid on the eggs in nest and then cover the mound. 2. You and take a shovel and put one ant mount on top of another they will kill each other. In about a day you will all the dead ants laid out side the winners mound. Sometimes you can kill a mound this way. The kids really enjoy this one it is like getting even... 4. I have used gas but I think they just move. Boiling water works but if you have lots of mound that means lots of hot water...
