I have had most success with ORTHENE , the stinky powder. I ve used amdro and others he in Texas and the ants just come back stronger. ORTHENE destroyed 90% of mounds treated and the other 10% on the 26 acres on retreatment. Of course they propagate like termites - al take to flight in spring and form a new colony where they land. Up close to the house i have used hot ammonia water, ssoapy water would probly work - any thing to break the surface tensoin of the water so the little buggers drownd. i tried ammonia and turpentine mixtures with very short lived results. I was in my kayak paddling thru a flooded forest a few years ago when i saw what looked like coffee grounds in the fork of a sapling. I got to close and bumped it and a whole nest of fore ants dropped in the cockpit with me. that is till i got out. only got about 20 bites. bill
