Might seem like a dumb question, but I thought I'd ask anyways (I'm new to farming in the last couple years, so bear with me).
I just took over another 170 acres of land that had soybeans on it last year. I don't have any tillage equipment yet, but I had planned to buy some to plant hay this year. Then I got looking at the fields and thinking that I might be able to plant hay directly into the fields without ploughing because there isn't too much 'trash' on the surface, at least not nearly as much as what's left with corn.
Do you think I could save some $ and plant directly without ploughing, discing, etc? Or could I just disc and be OK?
I don't have any pictures of the fields, but there are a lot of barren spots where there is no soybean leftovers. Thoughts?
