Shadetree mechaniking ended about 10 years after the first electronic fuel injection systems came out. Although, kids nowadays who aren't afraid of computers, for about $500 can get some OBD2 compatible scan tools and the books required to use them. Never underestimate the shadetree! (I prefer a heated barn myself, in which to run a pulse width diag. on the injectors, but in the summer, it can be done outside). There's more processing power in the IC that keeps the CD player from skipping, than there was in the lunar lander, by the way. :>)
