Actively discourage? As in damage your equipment, or threaten you?
Or just be a royal PITA, and do petty things like steal the firewood, run off with the all important water wagon for "dust control", and whine to the directors because the ash from your engine burnt holes in their cheapy canopy or did funny things to their wax job? That, I think you'll find is about everywhere any more. There are a lot of fellows out there who have never been around, and simply don't understand steam. Some are approachable, some dislike ya fer havin different priorities, and some are just irrationally afraid of things. We could start a reeeeeeally long string (flaming match?) over my opinions about what all the political infighting (turf wars) is doing to the hobby.

12-Volt Conversions for 4-Cylinder Ford 2000 & 4000 Tractors - by Tommy Duvall. After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
