I vote for gas. Our MH50 gas never failed us through six winters outside Duluth, MN. That's not to say a diesel totally wouldn't work but it's like shoveling snow upwind by comparison. With 5W-30 in the crankcase, a big battery and an engine reasonably in tune, you should have no worries.
