Do you want to retain current customers? A postcard with a bit of an offer can get them off their duff; but good service & friendly business atmosphere likely does a lot more to retain those folk.
If you are looking for new customers, a radio ad, newspaper ad, regional farm paper ad (if your business is farm-related) will let new people know you are out there. Postcards to old customers won't bring new business, if you are looking for new people you need to place your name where it hasn't been seen before, and hope one out of 1000 calls you....
