also called "husk tomato." fruit looks like a small tomato with a paperlike husk. when the fruit looks like it's bursting out of the husk, it's ripe. used in salsa verde (green salsa), not sure what else. they produce copious seeds which will keep coming back for a *long* time. like, after being grown intentionally one year, it is still a weed in that one area nine years later. it's not aggressive like most weeds you think of, so it's not really a problem, but if you want a crop of tomatillo, just till that one spot and let it grow.
