I just ran into the same problem on an AC WD-45. The alternator on it was not connected and after some struggling I finally figured out the correct hook-up. For a negative ground system, you will have a positive post on the alternator and a ground terminal plus a plug-in connector with two wires. The positive post should be connected the starter solenoid or the run terminal on the ignition switch and connect the ground somewhere on the chassis. With the two wires on the connector one should be red and the other white. The red wire (F or #2 on the alternator case) should also be tied to the run terminal on the ignition switch and the white wire should be tied to the accessory terminal on the ignition switch. The white wire (C or #1 on the case) is what controls the alternator on and off. If you tied it to the run side of the ignition switch the tractor will continue to run after you switch it off...Not a good idea. Good luck.
