enhance performance of air cooled lawn tractor engine

Are there any additives that can be used in the oil of a small air cooled ride on lawnmower engine or a synthetic oil that can be used to improve the performance in an old worn lawnmower engine.I realize an engine rebuild is necessary here,but the grass is up and I wish to try and get through this mowing season and than do the overhaul.
