I had a yamaha timberwolf when I was in college, it was replaced with the bear tracker. I think the only thing that get better with the bear tracker was the brakes were better than the timberwolves. Buddy of mine bought a new recon and we went ride'n a few times together. My yamaha would out run the recon on the open road by a little bit but when it came to mud and hills his seemed to have more lower end power.
As for Hondas, I have a 04 450 foreman 4X4 and it's the best thing I ever bought for the farm by far. From what I have seen of your operation a 250 will work good for you. I will say this about my old yamaha 250 and I am sure it would be the same for the recon, when I used the timberwolf to check fences and such seemed like I could run all summer on a tank of gas. I run a tank through my 450 every two weeks now.
Price sounds like a good deal. Good luck, hope you hear back from him.
