I remember as a wee lad my father, uncle and grand dad using carbide pellets and water from the garden hose. They made us kids sit tight on the front porch but we got to watch. "Fire in the Hole" Then Thump! Woosh! We could feel the porch tremble. Usually there was liquor involved though none for those on the porch.
