A company out of Michigan was in my area (west of Bloomington) 2 or 3 yrs ago hitting up everyone to sign over mineral rights. Wine and dined the larger property owners. They were going to use new methods of extracting oil from shale. When I had some issues with the contract wording (clean up, use of the property, etc) they stopped contact with me.
Haven't seen hide nor hair of them in the area in the last year or more. Not aware of any working wells in the area either.
You should be able to go to any local attorney and they could point you in the direction of someone who has experience in this type of thing.
