Water Pump(non-tractor)

Lots of smart folks here. I know it sounds like I have a water pump starting to go bad.(ie ball bearings rolling in a tin can.) Was just curious how long could it still work?. Sounds like that for about 5mins after start up, then gets quieter as vehicle warms up.
