Maybe, maybe not. If you took you eight years to learn your job it would probably be your undoing. They have time to prepare and understand the task just like any other job prior to taking on the responsibility. It may serve the public better to have fresh minds and new solutions just like in corporate America. They certainly don't qualify for a full pay retirement with COLA and full medical for both the politicians and their spouses for as long as they both live just because they served eight years. A 401K and partial pension depending on years of service should be as good for them as it is for joe public.
