I think there is nothing wrong with looking at the past because alot of this "new" technology was actually tried long long ago ! Electric cars is one thing that comes to mind. And for someone going into engineering there are many things to learn from old equipment. At the top of my list is how to build something and make it last ! Quality is becoming history but needs to return.
With all this talk today about being "green" I fail to see how building all this throw away non- rebuildable junk that is going to end up in a junk heap is Earth friendly.
