lift up the hood and see if you can follow any rods from brake pedal and see where they go. On the Allis I can lift the back tin up and that allows you to see what moves when you push the brake. there was a piece of metal on top of the hydro unit that pushed down on two pins. That disengaged the hydro. It is fairly easy to see but it may be different on a cub cadet. There should be a garden tractor section that may be able to help you better then I can. google Cub Cadet and see what you get.
