I posted this question on another forum, but there is almost no traffic over there. This is tractor-related, since I need a welder to keep my fleet(6)of older tractors and dozers running. I have acquired an welder/generator which works fine as a generator, but not as a welder. The entire DC side is dead, the only arc possible comes from the battery until it is run down. The generator does not charge the battery, and the hourmeter is dead(it's dc powered also). Before I go to the service center (125 miles), I could use some basic generic info. Can anyone hazard a guess as to what the problem is? I need enough information so that I can carry on a reasonable conversation with the service tech. Are we talking transformers, rectifiers, circuit breakers, etc? I'm without a manual or a schematic, maybe the service center has some info. Appreciate any help!!
