depends on how much exercise you want, small squares need to be put inside out of the weather big rounds are a lot faster to make and they usually leave them outside where they mold down about 6" all the way around Horses can't take the mold gives them the heaves [lack of wind] which is why they get small squares cattle are good processers of mold but they usually won't eat it so they get big rounds. My milk cows get small squares in the barn and the heifers get big rounds outside. One round will equal about 15 sm squares lot easier to drop a big bale in feeder with tractor than lug 15 small squares.
