Farming was never very good in the original part of the NY Adirondacks. Too cold with a short growing season and not very good soil either (rocky and/or sandy).
I just came back from camping for a week in the central Adirondacks in Hamilton County where I'm slowly building a cabin. Two weeks ago it was 28 degrees at night, now it's been near 80 degrees F. at night and 80s-90s during the day. Hottest and driest I've ever seen it for this many days straight in this area.
Took a few photos of what's left of an old farm site near our land. Funny thing is . . . there were turtles roaming around all over the place. Usually in the spring, they travel to lay eggs when it rains. But after a week of no rain, I guess they gave up waiting.
