About 20 years ago, a niece of ours would take some aluminum foil, roll it into a string, cut off BB sized bits and put a dozen or so in a 2 litre plastic bottle. She'd then add a quarter cup of "Right Stuff" drain opener, screw the cap on tight, and throw it out into the back yard.
In a few minutes it would sound like a cherry bomb going off. It does work.
