The WPA and the CCC boys attempted to eradicate both gooseberries and currants back in the 30's and 40's. We had a currant bush back on the farm when I was a kid and my mom made currant jelly every year. There were a few gooseberry bushes down the "lane" where we used to bring the cows in from pasture and my brother and I really enjoyed the few we got.
