That's what I've been asking... Why not just crimp the rest of the riser off... Or fit a large rubber industrial hose over the pipe to get a suction device on it... Hope the cap works tonight...
It makes me mad with all the smart reporters, commentators, "outraged" government officials, etc, that are so full of themselves bashing BP - not one of them had the idea of trying to grab the riser to save it in the two days the rig was burning - BEFORE it sank and crumpled the riser to bits...
I'm sure not for BP - its a tragedy for sure - but I don't know which was worse - everyone complaining about $4/gal gasoline - or this...
