It works well for certain weeds - like Canadian thistles. It is their nature to flow sap upward in spring, to feed the bud & seeds from that massive big root storage system they have.
Then in fall after blooming time, they send the sap flow back down, to rebuild the root system & store up for the next year. It is best to spray these blasted plants during this time, with a spray that translocates into the root system such as Roundup or Stinger or the like.
Canadian thistle is really just a special weed, it acts differently than many other weeds, need to treat it differently. Spray it in spring or with a typical broadleaf spray, and you only burn off the top of it; the root will remain and regrow.
To kill a weed in fall, or a tough one like Canadian thistle, you ne3ed to look at the label on your spray, and use a full, full rate, don't skimp. Fall weeds are bigger, have thicker coatings on their leaves & stems, harder to kill. But in some cases it is the best time to kill, even if it takes a full rate of spray.
