Shipping and handling costs are major profit centers for most mail order places. They can easily double their profit by jacking up the shipping on small orders. I paid $20 to ship two motorcycle tires from Denver to the left coast. They sent the wrong ones so I got a DHL return voucher. I asked the guy at DHL what they charged to send them back, $8.
If you use Google shopping, you can filter to only include free shipping and see what that costs. I hate to go thru the whole order deal only to find the shipping is about equal to the item I want.
