Check voltage with the engine running fast,should be 7-7.5 volts at the battery posts. If the generator is working then you should check your wiring. The wire from the battery should be by itself on one amp guage post. The other post should have the generator output wire and any accessory feed wire such as ignition and lights. On a JD with the combination light and ign switch one wire may feed both lights and ign. Does the amp guage show discharge when you turn on any accessory with the engine stopped? if so the guage is not stuck( happens to even new ones). Make sure the generator belt is tight. You might also check if you have 6 volts to the regulator bat terminal with the engine off. Have worked on a few JD's where the generator wires shorted and burned off where they run above the gas tank.
