Brad, the answers given are very good advice, and safety is always a concern. Is your system safe? Yes, as long as it is properly maintained. Since you have an ammeter, you will know if the alternator is over charging, but still, check the battery often to see if the cables are clean, make sure there is no moisture on the outside of the battery, (this is a sign of overcharging), and check the water in the battery. These are things that need to be done often anyway, and it will help the life of your battery as well as keep you safe. Enjoy. kkreek
