wear is inversely related to rpms... when they put in overdrive, the engines started lasting much much much longer as now they turned the same rpms as a diesel at cruise speed. Oil has improved vastly also.
86 f250 ford diesel, 380,000 before I got tired of looking at it.It did not have a turbo and when I started trying to pull 15,000 lbs, I couldnt get it over 50 and you could not see the road behind me.
