I knew my generation was next, but wow. Happening too quick. Got a neighbor to the east, went all through school together, been working his farm since he bought it in 1981. I'd heard he had cancer, but I've seen him out and around, looks a little rough, but on his feet. I was cutting hay down there yesterday and when my wife came to get me for lunch, she was talking to his wife. She said he's full of cancer and isn't responding to treatment very well. They're going to start round 2 this next week, but it doesn't look good. He had just retired and they said he found out he had it before he could even clean out his desk. Another neighbor just to the west, same age,his wife was a classmate of the other neighbor and me. He had a major stroke about a month ago. Heavy bleeding on the brain, they drilled a hole in his skull, did all they could. He's alive, but doesn't know anybody. Bad shape. Two weeks ago,a neighbor just to the north had a massive heart attack and died. Then Friday, the guy who owns the resturant in town along with his wife, had a heart attack and died. We always kinda ran with the same crowd. His wife and mine are good friends. I remember back when my uncle died,my cousin said that when Great Grandma died, she thought,"that's OK,I still have Grandma and Dad".Then when Grandma died, she thought "that's OK,I still have Dad". She said,"now Dad's gone. You know, our generation's next". Looks like it's here.
