Got to spend some more time with my Dad and Mom yesterday for Father's Day. Dad is the one who taught me how to drive a tractor BBUUTT was the only one who didn't become a farmer!
Back when my brother and I were 6-8 years old, he would go around and make sure we hadn't pulled any switches on an Oliver 70. Few years later, he let my brother and I drive the Hart Parr 70 with pipe loader to move bricks for my uncle's new shed. Couple of years later, we "helped" haul in ear corn with an Oliver 77 as my uncle picked and unload at the corn crib with lift. Sure was suprised when I got to run the Oliver 77 with a sickle mower to clip oats!
Fast forward to about 1973/74 and didn't want to work for the lumber yard in town. Dad's brother called and asked if I wanted to work on the farm. Started running an Oliver 880 with disk, then "graduated" to 4 row cultivator. Pretty soon, was running JD 4020 (ps), 4320 and then 4430's before I graduated from college.
Sure miss them days - guess that's why I have to have a couple of tractors around and my daughter can run them!
