Better Boy has been my tomato choice for years and just happens to hold the worlds record for production.
If you don't mind using garden aids cross linked polyacrylamides (CLP)will help even out the water cycle. You sometimes see them in flower pots and they look like a blob of gelatin. I think Soil Moist is one brand.
A heavy amount of organic matter in the soil should perform similarly.
Select a variety from descriptions that states resists splitting. Might be tough skinned for eating however.
