I used to have a good friend, Ralph Charles, Who flew till he was 102 years old and broke his hip.. He flew and maintained an old Aeronca defender, WW11 liason aircraft. He had a small farm and maintained his own airstrip on the farm. His pilot's license was number 29 and signed by orville Wright. The whole aviation community celebrated his 100th birthday in 1998. All the major aviation magazines and trade papers had representatives there. The party was at his farm and many of his friends flew in for the celebration. Ralph was from Thornville, Ohio and at the time was the oldest active pilot in the country. He died in 2002 at age 104... Gene
