my old allis baler i got for free also does that - but for the most part it is when i am not feeding new hay in and the flywheel is "thumping" when the plunger keeps hitting the same already compressed bit of hay..... it helps to turn off the PTO when hay isn't in front of it, and i fixed up and installed a couple more hay wedges to keep the already compressed hay from spring back forward so much - also if the hay is too wet - that is the first thing to go....

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
