I believe as long as it has the newer style fitting it will not be a problem, the one with the coarse external threads as opposed to the fine internal threads that are counterclockwise to tighten.
Depending on where you are going you should be able to find a Canadian Tire or Wal-Mart that will have an exchange service as well as many gas stations.
As far as the border goes, I don't think there should be any problems at all. I have seen vehicles coming in that have been loaded to the rafters so to speak with all manner of outdoor equipment. They may go through it all but as long as you are honest about what you are bringing with you there should be no problems. I think the biggest thing is firearms/weapns or ammunition which can be brought in with proper paperwork.
