Yesterday, I saw some tassles on some of my corn. This is only the second time I've seen tassles this early here in my part of NW Iowa. It's Pioneer 36V53 which is a 103-104 day corn for this region. Planted it on April 17th. Years ago a neighbor planted some 98 day Dekalb early and it tassled on the 4th.
Tried to spray some fencerows around a cornfield on the 4th and as I got into the field aways the corn was taller than the hood on my Oliver 88. Couldn't turn around without slaughtering corn so I kept going and ended up stuck. Had to unhook the sprayer, get the tractor turned around with the front wheels balled up and sliding along and follow my tracks back out. Ended up slaughtering a bunch of corn but there was no other choice. Pulled the sprayer out backwards yesterday and a few hours later we got another 3/4" of rain. Jim
