Fuel costs twice as much here as what you folks pay, machinery is more expensive, and taxes are higher. When I buy small squares (bought the last 10 years) I paid a euro (just over a dollar) a bale for 30-40 pound bales loaded on a wagon and parked in front of my house.
Think I'd do some monkey math and see what it'd actually cost you then ask them to make an offer that they think is fair and discuss accordingly.
