What tractor? I doubt I'd use 140 in anything unless it was specifically called for. That stuff is so heavy it will starve a lot of needle bearings unless it was designed for it. If I had a choice between lighter oil and heavier oil it will always be lighter around here.
The price you were quoted for 80W90 is also absurd. You can get it at walmart any time you like for less than 50/bucket. That would be less than 10 bucks a gallon...
