Well.. i see everyone seems to think chloride only rusts rims.. So I'll add what it also works for:
it's $10/bag here (or was earlier this year). We use a few bags a year in the drive/lane/road here.
Seems like in the winter they mix some chloride with mortar (in northern climate) for laying block too.
Have used some drained out of a tractor tire (accidentally used..) as a weed killer.. Probably not the best ting to use it for, but it wiped out all the weeds and grass where I spilled it.
I also have 2 tractors that have loaded tires.. one since 1962, the other since 1967.. and the rims are as close to solid as they were when new.. If maintained, and they don't leak, there really isn't that problem.
But yes, I'd venture to say you got a deal on what you picked up
