Connect a spark tester or even a spare sparkplug to one of the plug wires. Ground the tester or sparkplug.
Start it and watch the spark to see if the spark quits at the instant it begins to stall or continues on 'til the engine coasts to a stop.
If it IS losing spark, next thing would be to get a meter or test light on the ignition switch side of the coil primary and see if the coil is getting power even as the engine is costing to a stop.
IF power TO the coil remains constant, likely you have a bad condenser or failing coil. If the power supply to the coil fails, it could be a bad ignition switch or resistor (if used) or a wiring/connection problem.
A WEIRD problem such as an bad insulator on the primary terminal that passes through the distributor body (IF used) shorting as it warms up or other oddball "short" or open is a SMALL possibility.
A bad distributor cap is UNLIKELY to cause a "starts, then stops" problem.
On the other hand, OBVIOUSLY, if the spark isn't failing you have a gas flow restriction problem.
