I generally don't get into this stuff, but most pension checks are not annuities. Companies big and small have pension funds. I assume that you used to be a teacher or government worker? Those professions are where annuities are more common. Private companies actually made money on pension plans some years, if the investments made more than what the company was required to put in, the excess dollars went right to the bottom line. And exec bonuses. And the UAW never has run pension plans. The companies always did that.
