Giving tax credits to businesses isn't working, and all it does is shifts the burden on to us working folks.
The tax credit doesn't even come close to offsetting the cost of doing business in the USA with all the inane rules, regulations, labor laws, prevailing wages. To produce in the USA, a manufacturer has to raise the price of his goods, and as soon as they do that, China swoops in with a substandard product at half the price and puts him out of business.
So the choice is either have your stuff made in China and survive, or "fight the good fight" and end up unemployed.
There's no going back. If we close off the borders and force ourselves to produce everything here, everything will be so expensive that nobody will be able to afford anything. Our economy will go into a tailspin with no hope for recovery, ever. The entire country will look like Flint, MI.
Our only hope here is to pump as much money into China and India as possible and bring their middle class up to a point where they start wanting goods and services for themselves. They create demand, which they will not be able to satisfy themselves, while satisfying ours. We will have to start making stuff again. The key is having a ready and willing workforce, along with the facilities ready to ramp up and go.
