So, about 6 years ago, I bought a new-old fangled, hand crank Ice cream freezers at my local hardware store, like we had when I was a kid. I made one batch of ice cream and the gear mechanism started to bind up, and quit working. Got busy and didn't get a new one before the warranty ran out. Finally bought one online about three years ago, and it worked like a charm. I figure I've made 20 batches of ice cream in that length of time. Made a some last night, and before it was all done, the dang gear mechanism was binding up so bad I couldn't hardly turn it. Leaves a pretty good pile of metal shavings on the top of the canister, and some in the mix. Has anyone else run into this problem? What does a fella do about it? I can't hardly justify spending $60 an a new head every few years to keep making ice cream. Figured I'd call the mfg (Rival) this week and see if they'll do anything for me, but I'm betting they tell me I'm out of luck...
