A lot depends on the venue in which it is sold. At auction, some auctions are better than others. We used to have an auction house nearby that collected lumber and other building materials and auctioned it every couple of months. I saw lumber go for anywhere from 25-75% of retail, depending on what it was. I once bought some really good wood I-beams for about 5 cents on the retail dollar. Used them in my hayshed.
