recently acquired a 285 massey that was running, but had a noise in the engine down under. opened it up and found a pair of loose rod caps. want to order some pieces for the engine and upon closer examination found out that i dont have a purebred. engine serial # tag does not exist. i have #s cast into the block on the right side, down low, near the back and middle of the block. i hav also found #s stamped into the block at the very front of the right side of the block up high near where the head would meet. there are also #s stamped into a removable plate on the back of the head. i have measure the bore in the cylinder and it measures 4" not the 4.5" that the correct engine wud hav came with.( as far as any info i can come up with about the tractor indicates). so having said all this anybody hav any ideas on where i can research the numbers i do hav accurately? websites, books, dealers? any thots or info wud be appreciated.tks.
