My '97 Mercury Cougar with v6 & 260k miles has been great car.
Yesterday, after driving 150 miles & stopping for supper, we took off again and shortly down the road the A/C cooling quit (fans & all lights still worked fine), and the car started cutting out pretty bad.
After limping along at 30 mph or so with it coughing and acting like it was starving for gas for a little way, I pulled over & let it idle for a few seconds - sounded rough & like it was barely getting fuel.
I killed it - sort of pondered some options - and then restarted it to listen again. It started easy and sounded normal then, so turned the A/C back on and everything seemed fine...
It never gave any more trouble on the 120 miles back home or this morning...
Any ideas on what could cause such a weird set of symptoms???
