First thing to do is relax, I hope you didnt post something bad about another brand in your history of being on here! I run jds and masseys and olivers, and out of them all the jds do take more repair, the hitch on the 4020 is a joke, one day you can use it then the next day you go to use it it is out of oil in the rear end. I thought it was the stupidest design! The hydraulic pump is wonderful yet too, if you hold the clutch down to long and your lift pump is bad you dont have hydraulics, the power shift was a great option, but it needed more than eight speeds, and they kept that all the way through the 40 series. I ran a 4440, and you had to clutch between 6 and 7 other wise the front wheels came off the ground! The 4020s they couldnt figure out how to start them should we use 12 volt or 24, niether worked worth a darn, well turn the steering wheel while cranking it, that helps, isnt that stupid, why not dump some load, the other brands I run dont start that hard! The front fuel tank gets in the way for air flow and cleaning the radiator, I use to complain about the pto speed, the 4020 is at 1900rpm and the 3020 is at 2100rpm, dad bought those both new, ran the 4020 on the chopper and the 3020 hauled in, the pto speed needed switched, the chopper killed the 4020, and the 3020 you needed to wind up to unload the wagons, my 1850 handles the chopper better with a slower low gear and 2400rpm for the pto speed, if he had bought olivers, the 1650 has a pto speed of 2100 rpm, see how that is better thinking! Maybe the guys in Waterloo should have went to Charles City and asked for help! LOL! As far as resale the little ford 8n probally has everone beat out! As far as I am concerned, I like driveing them all, Oh yeah the steering on a jd is about as whacky as a polition, watch the front wheels close while driving in high gear down the road, well the 4020 and 1850 go hand in hand, I also have a 1105, I use the 1105 and 1850 for field work and the 4020 gets the odd jobs, the 4020 never pulled a plow as well as the 1850 or the 1105, dont know why? Anyway, if people want to spend more for a jd let them do it, it isnt any better than the next! Just my dollar and a half!
