20 yrs ago, I went out to expensive restaurants, took vacations at resorts, drove a new luxury car. I'm still the same person, albeit more experienced at what I do. However, I was able to afford those because my skills were valuable AND marketable. Now, I'm actually making more than I did then, but inflation has taken its toll. So am I to "demand" that I get paid enough to restore my standard of living to what it was? It is a buyer's market for my skills. Employers can find people who will do my job for less. By raising "the bar for the rest of the world", we've lowered ours globally. Just a fact of life.
As for your comment that you "will not settle for a lower standard of living or anything else less than the best i can get for me or my family or my country", I tip my hat to you. As long as you work as hard or as smart as you need to in order to accomplish that. Just don't expect it to be handed to you on a silver platter.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
