Our two barn cats were rescued as someone dropped off the pregnant mother a road over from ours. Good cats, have caught lots of mice! They're happy there.
I don't know what's wrong with people, if you can't look after it either have it put down or find a good home. Dumping them in the country is no guarantee of anything. Spineless people like that don't deserve to have animals.
There are a couple of "strays" I've seen a few times, none too friendly. I think it's 'cause one of the neighbors feeds them, calls them her cats. One big nasty old tom took up residence in our barn last winter, scared the heck out of our cats, they wouldn't go near it. He started marking his territory and hissing at the wife when she'd go down there. Enough was enough, the dogs treed it one night and I "took care of it". Sucker must have weighed over 20lbs!
