Aw, you surely must know better, Old. All the unemployed are young able-bodied people who'd rather collect a check than go to work...that's what I keep hearing on these boards. If they'd cut out welfare checks and unemployment checks, why, unemployment would be zero...according to these experts. Us folks in our 50's would never get laid off and be replaced by 20-somethings who get paid less...even though one interviewer actually told me that he was afraid that, at 55 years old, I might "skew" the company's insurance rates higher. Guess it ain't age discrimination if you can blame it on the insurance company.
In the '92 election, Ross Perot told us this would happen to our jobs if we started passing free trade agreements...that industries would locate offshore because there weren't tariffs to discourage them from producing their goods overseas. But according to the two mainstream political parties, ol' Ross was a raving lunatic who had no idea what he was talking about. One party suggested he belonged in a straightjacket. But now, 18 years later, Ross Perot looks like a prophet...and yet folks still vote for BOTH of the political parties that said Perot was crazy. So who looks crazy NOW?
